However, this agreement stems from an already existing partnership between the University of Katyavala Bwila and the State University of Amazonas, which dates from 2018. Upon Angola’s reorganization of its higher education institutions, in 2020 the University of Katyavala Bwila had the ISCED of Cuanza-Sul separated from its organizational units. In that way, following Presidential Decree No. 285/20 of October 29th, ISCED then became an autonomous higher education institute. Given the continuity of academic relationships, this new cooperation remains in effect, grounded in reciprocity and the development of research in Brazil – especially in the state of Amazonas – and in Angola/Cuanza-Sul. It aims at promoting knowledge and culture, as well as strengthening their stricto sensu graduate programs. At ISCED, this agreement is coordinated by Professor Arlinda Conceição dos Santos, Ph.D. At UEA, it is led by Professor Renata Beatriz Brandespin Rolon, Ph.D., a faculty member who also works in the master's and doctoral programs in Educational Sciences at ISCED/Sumbe. stricto sensu graduate education. Future actions are expected to include other creative expressions, which are developed within the PPGLA and of interest to CEB-USAL. The Project, which also involves Universidad de La Sabana (Colombia) makes use of classical texts and rhetorical techniques – such as the Socratic method – to support Indigenous communities in the Amazon in finding peaceful ways for conflict resolution. The Project has adapted and translated an exercise book into a comic book format from the Irene Peace Building to train Indigenous women activities as mediators, equipping them on how to handle conflict within their communities in the Upper Rio Negro region. These activists, in turn, replicate the training in their communities, helping to resolve conflicts related to land, water, and gender-based violence. By connecting classical texts with contemporary issues, Irene has laid the foundation for long-term peacebuilding efforts in a vulnerable and underserved region.
